Description:
In my master’s thesis, I conducted an in-depth exploration of the phenomenon of social acceleration and the growing desire for deceleration. Acceleration is a defining characteristic of modern society, where technological advancements have seemingly saved time, yet paradoxically leave many feeling as though time is slipping away. The increasing pressure to achieve more in less time has left many overwhelmed by constant time constraints. Multitasking—where multiple tasks are handled simultaneously—has become emblematic of this trend. The relentless pace of modern life often results in health issues such as stress, loneliness, burnout, and depression.
To express this theme artistically, I created a video installation that examines the tempo of everyday life. The installation highlights contrasts between speed and slowness, loudness and silence, movement and stillness. It incorporates a series of film works staged in both public and private spaces, as well as minimalist motion graphics. These two-dimensional animations are designed to convey a sense of poetry and vitality through their simplicity and effective motion. Both color and sound design play a crucial role in enhancing the viewer’s sensory experience.
A significant component of the installation is the use of plants, symbolizing a symbiotic relationship between nature and technology, which reinforces the theme of deceleration. The overarching aim of my work is to encourage viewers to reflect on how the acceleration of modern life impacts them personally, while also sparking broader discussions on the subject.
